Model D Grader Timing

Hello, I have a gas model D grader. I had to remove the magneto to replace the coil. The mag has spark now, but I am having some trouble getting everything put back in time. Can someone give me a run down on timing this grader? the serial number is D2453 and the engine serial is D323854PA it has an Fairbanks FMJ mag. Thank You Bill
 
They all time the same way. Spark on number one cylinder at top dead center on the compression stroke. The magneto will take care of the advance when running.

Thumb over the number one plug hole to feel the air pressure on your thumb. Number one cylinder is above the magneto. I have crippled hands and can not get my thumb over the plug hole so I remove the valve cover and make sure both rocker arms are up on number one cylinder and watch the magneto drive to set the magneto before it goes past horizontal. I double the timing by watching for the spark on number one. The instant I see spark by hand cranking I check the flywheel for the top dead center mark. I adjust the magneto until the TDC in centered.
 
I put #1 cylinder on TDC on the compression stroke. The MAG drive coupling is horizontal. When I get the mag set where it is going to fire #1 cylinder it"s lugs are pretty much vertical. so far I can get the engine to fire just once each time I let off they key switch. It will not fire when the engine is cranking at speed.

Put the magneto in a vise with wires on it. Snapping it over by hand check each terminal to see it sparking and tape the drive when you know each terminal is firing properly as it snaps past horizontal after number four terminal fires. That means the next time it fires it will be the number one magneto wire terminal.
