Have an Allis Challmers 433T engine that had been setting for several years. Got it running the other day now today it only runs 45 seconds and dies. I can loosen the 1/2 hex head bolt on the side and keep it running but it dies if I tighten it. It has a DB roosa master pump and I have cleaned the return lines and fitting on top of the pump. Not sure what it's doing. Thanks

Remove that fitting that is threaded into the pumps top cover. Take it over to a bench grinder and lightly grind on the very end of the threads. Take a small punch and shove it in the hole, and pry out the flat washer. Throw away the ball, spring and flat washer. Make sure the fitting is free and clear. Start the engine with this removed and let it run while spewing fuel for a bit and then thread the fitting back into the cover. Any blockage at that outlet and the engine quits.

Weight retainer governor ring is failing and pump will need repair. Verify by loosening the two screw timing cover allowing fuel to leak out while it runs. If it acts OK re-tighten the cover, and it should die again. This confirms the return fitting is getting plugged by small bits, and high housing pressure will cause shut down. DON'T knock the return ball out and keep running it or major pump damage will result. When the retainer pins shear off, they wedge between the rotor and cam ring, seizing the hydraulic head and breaking the drive shaft. The bits can also plug the injector top return line, if they get that far.
