Allis H4 manifold

Posted some time ago about trying to find a gas manifold for allis 2200 200 cubic inch engine, Not one to be found, however Its easy to adapt a diesel exhaust manifold by a little cutting. Any one needing a manifold for this engine will be happy to learn this.

I was thinking about that. In fact I started about three replies, but each time realized I was visualizing a diesel engine, as I have never seen a gas 200. I've owned three 200 diesels.

Isn't your gas intake/exhaust manifold all one assembly? I don't know that I've ever seen a cross flow head on a gas engine? So, how are you making this work?

Its or was a two piece manifold The exhaust unbolted from the intake portion. the only connection was in the center where the exhaust bolted to give a preheat area . The diesel has an arch high enough to clear this part. Only modification was to slice the two outside tabs in half as the bolts holding it shared the same bolt to the intake with a large washer as a clamp. Actually going to work better as normal operation defiantly does not need preheat .

Interesting. Now I'm wondering if there are more than one diesel exhaust manifolds, because- the 200 diesels used on agr. equipment were turbocharged. I think the HD4 was naturally aspirated.

I'll never figure out what took them so long to use that engine in farm equipment. All three I had were trouble free. The one in the tractor (6060) put out so much more power than advertised that we eventually got rid of the tractor, fearing that something in the drive line would give out.

This is not the same mengine as in tractors . Thats why so difficult getting manifold. According to allis tractor and other allis construction folks this engine is used very little. The diesel is in HD4 crawlers but is nor the same as in farm equipment. I try to get picture to post in a while.

Now I can say I've seen the gas version. At least some of it! It was not used in farm equipment. The diesel version in farm equipment has a turbo mount pad on the exhaust manifold.

I've never seen one either, but always knew there was one. I'd say you won't have any trouble until cold weather, when you might need some heat in that part of the intake manifold.
