Does an allis C have enough HP to run a 14t John Deere baler? I will also post this in the jd forum

My WD did real good with one. I'd agree with others. Light windrows, level ground, and dropping. Make darn sure they shearbolt in the flywheel is right. I could see a bad stroke snapping the PTO shaft on the tractor. Will need an adapter to the 1 3/8" pto shaft. They make an over running clutch that goes from 1 1/8-1 3/8.

Sounds like the WD or the Moline then. Thanks for the input. The WD has issues so I better get fixing lol.

Only way a A/C can run a 14T baler is if the baler has it own engine and you best be on flat ground or the baler will push you around and maybe even get you hurt or dead. I prefer a heavier tractor to pull a baler with since on one that is to light you tend you have a rocking horse ride form the plunger going forward and backward

I get the basic concept but I'm curious why an allis can't run a baler. I just got this baler but i have ridden a million miles on a rack behind this baler and I have no doubt in mymind the baler has an overrunning clutch built in to it.

I think Old meant a C. Used my WD on a 14T for a few years. Pretty sure he was referring to the model C. It'd be pretty light for the job and now that I know you have bigger horses, I'd get those going and use them.

An A/C C is just flat out to small both in HP and in weight. You figure a C it 2500 lbs tops and a baler is around 3000lbs so you have a machine that is heavier then the tractor so it tends to get pushy with a tractor on a hill. Plus the HP is not enough to run a baler in all but perfect conditions. Now a WD or WD45 or D-17 well all of those will handle a baler just fine

Yep I was talking about trying it with a since that was what he asked about. A C is just to small both in weight and HP to run a baler. Ya a WC or WD etc will handle it just fine

Ok now I get you. I knew it was asking a lot of that size allis and sounds like better left to the WD or my Moline U. (Gonna have to put axle seals in the WD) The first post just said an allis won't run the baler and that didn't add up. Sorry I misunderstood. Thanks for the input.

Ah but you asked about a A/C C so I left it at that and did not go into it deeper think you would understand since you ask about a C I was talking about a C

It actually depends on how you rake your hay. In light hay I have used my NH 277 baler on my Simplicity 9523 or same as the Allis 5020. I use the Farmall on it in light hay quite a bit. Heavy hay or want to pull a wagon I go to a larger tractor. I might put a Allis B on it this summer and took pictures just for kicks.
