water in oil wd45 diesel

I am looking at fixing a running wd45 diesel with antifreeze in the oil pan. What is the most common cause of this problem and how hard of a fix if possible would it be. I know there are a number of possible causes I am not familiar with the buda diesel that is why I ask what happens most often. I have heard from an old allis dealer they all liked to crack block and need to be reinforced. any and all help appreciated thanks Travis
 

Growing up, all we ever heard was that "you don't want the Diesel WD-45" as they Crack..I always thought they said it was the head that cracked...
 
Antifreeze in the oil would suggest to me that something is cracked or leaking internally, or maybe something as easy as a head gasket. But if it happened after setting all winter, I may have an idea. A couple of years ago we had a bitterly cold winter and in the spring when I started servicing and got to the AC-B that I mow with and drained the oil, lots of antifreeze. OK, it was super cold, it sat in a barn, I changed the oil and filter, added antifreeze, started and ran it a few, let it set a day, no antifreeze in the oil when I drained it again. I mowed with it the whole season, no antifreeze in the oil. Then it sat in the barn the next winter, and in the spring when I got to servicing it, same thing, antifreeze in the oil. OK, same thing, drain and change the oil and change the filter, run it, let it set over night, no antifreeze, run it a few times, monitoring it, no antifreeze, and then about the third mow it started blowing smoke and faltered so I towed it into the barn and it sat all last season. Last week I received new sleeves, rings, pistons...rebuild kit from here at Yesterdaystractors. This weekend when I'm home, she's coming apart.

I'm not sure what to tell you other than...my little B is getting a rebuild. Good luck.

Block is likely cracked lengthwise allowing sleeves to settle letting antifreeze leak internally. Can be fixed, to make engine right will cost at least $5000. Whoever takes on this project must have a thick checkbook.
 
Most common problem is that corrosion occurs in the block that allows the sleeves to sink down and then the head gasket starts to leak. This was a problem on the D17 diesel too. The fix is to pull the offending sleeveand have the bore recut. Sometimes the sleeves can be shimmed up with stainless steel wire. But usually if one sleeve is sunk, the others aren't usually far behind. Yes these are high dollar engines to overhaul. The other problem is that the Budas were already outdated technology by the time AC installed them in the WD45.

Yikes! What makes these guys so much more expensive to fix up than a rebuild of a standard WD-45 gasser engine?
 
Pull the oil pan off and presser test the cooling system,look to see where the anti freeze is coming from. I see radiator testers on CL, or find someone to loan or rent you one.
 
I just bought this one with antifreeze in the pan...Like has already been said its nothing that $5000 won't fix..Farmers didn't properly let these tractors warm up and cool down so had problems...They were known for cracking heads,cracking blocks,sleeves settling-etc because they were a gas engine turned in to a diesel..

I've thought about putting a D-17 262 in mine...

I had one that I bought at an auction that had the block cracked between the liners. In retrospect I should have repowered it with a Cummins 4B non turbo (before emission days) but it is gone now.
 
Update I don't have much to add because I was unable to purchase the tractor. I thanks all for their input.
