Model G fan shaft bearings

This seems to be a common problem with these machines, and is not surprising given their age.

In addition to the Farmall 140 I am rehabbing, I also am working on a G. I bought a hydraulic press just for this job (I can use it elsewhere). The pulley side came off just fine, but the fan shaft side was more of a problem. The fan simply would not come off, even bending my brackets to support it.

Took it to a machine shop, and they had the same problem, they even applied heat to it (which I would have asked them not to do).

My question is, has anyone had this much trouble with a 'G' fan shaft. Also, the fan end of the shaft had a bearing that was soldered into place, has anyone seen anything like that before?

Had a new bearing that was loose on the shaft when we installed it. I was working on a research plot G for a professor at the time. He did not know what he was going to do about the loose bearing. I took a sharp punch and roughed up the shaft till the bearing had to be pressed on. He was amazed.

I have to ask, did you actually have the right size bearing? That does not sound like an appropriate fix for the problem.

I had the same problem. I took my shaft to my neighbors to use his press. He almost
laughed at me when he saw what I wanted to do. I had already had a puller and 2
bearing spliters on it. Well when I bent a 5/8" bolt trying to press it out, he
changed his attitude. He gave me a grade 15 5/8" bolt and a longer handle for the
press jack and I got it out.
The numbers for the replacement bearing is as follows
fan end MRC488016
pulley end MRC488503
Hope this helps.
