Wiring problem

I have 1955 Model B I had to rewire. I made a new hire harness; and used ( Sparex) light switch. I had a wiring diagram for the tractor, but the light is different. I had to guess. I ran the wire for the terminal at the end of the fuse on light switch to discharge side to the ammeber, the terminal on the side of switch to the headlights bottom terminal to the field side of generator, I got 2amps. When tractor is running slow when I pull switch out increase amp it does nothing it stays on2 amps. When all the way for lights they burn, but I have 20amp discharge.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU WHAT IT IS.

Sounds like you have an extra wire. You only need one wire from a power source (fused of course) and a wire from the switch to the lights. The lights are probably grounded to chassis which is not always reliable due to corrosion. If the lights don't operate well or consistently run a ground wire back to the battery negative terminal or a common ground block if there is one

Thanks Tarheel Jim

Lights are grounded to frame ignition switch to coil primary distributor lead. Ignition switch second terminal to minus side of ammeter. Discharge side of ammeter to cutout B side. Discharge side of ammeter to fuse. Resister side of light switch to field terminal on generator. Plus side of ammeter to starter switch. Side terminal on to lights.

Does this sound correct? If not, I would like your suggestion.

Thanks.

The field hooks to the resistor and is grounded when the switch is pulled to the second and third positions.

Maybe your switch isn't grounded well. Try jumping the field wire to engine block and see if it charges at a higher rate.
