I have an IB and am reading the Operators Manual. On page 4 which is the Specifications page it says the capacity of the final drive 1-1/2 pints. Whereas on page 7 under lubrication it says 2 quarts of SAE 140. 1-1/2 pints vs 2 quarts is a big difference, anyone know what is correct. I know the final drives are turned so the IB may be different than than the B.

Not that big of a difference really, only 1/2 pint. I'd guess the first page is right. AC had a habit of trying to reuse pages in the manuals and I bet they slipped the B page into the IB book on that one.

If you take the pan off and clean it, then fill through the plug you will not over fill it. I usually fill the pan before putting it back on, filling to about plug level, as long as it doesn't overflow when you put the pan up it will be fine. A couple of 2 or 3" bolts with the heads cut off and screwed in, one on each end will help guide the pan back in position, then, after other capscrews are in you remove the headless ones.

Oh, sorry about that, an IB has the reduction gears rotated at a 90 degree angle, you will have to fill after the covers are installed. However an amount of oil that comes to within say 3/4" of the top of a cover/pan with it held level will be about right.
