The stearing box went in my grandfather's 1968 AC D-12 orchard tractor last summer. I cannot find a new box for it due to that they don't make the box or the parts to refurbish the box. I am looking to possible buy a parts tractor for it but I have no idea what models and years will be compatible with it. Does anyone know what years and models that will match up with our tractor? Thanks!

There are tractor salvage (junk) yards around if you search them out, possibly you could get a
steering box this way.

If you can find a decent shop that rebuilds steering boxes for big trucks they are likely able to help you some way if you have a hard time to locate a good used one. The shop I dealt with was owner operated by two brothers and they never seemed to be stumped by anything they were asked to repair or rebuild.

Okay thank you

Go to www.agcopartsbooks.com and log in as a guest. You can find the parts manual for the D12. Pages 178-182 show the steering gears. Depending on serial number, you have one or the other. Take some time and try to figure out what moves and what doesn't. I'd bet there are roll pins holding the gears to the shafts. One of those could be broken, or the splines on the steering arm could be stripped. If you are any good at all with wrenching, I bet it's a simple fix to get it going again. A good machine shop could help with the splines if that is an issue.

An exact chassis serial number would be helpful to determine the exact age and series of the tractor. A 1968 model would be a "Series 3", which is kind of rare. A 1959 would be a "Series 1" and the steering box parts might be different between the two generations. Visual differences would be an oval muffler on the 68 model versus round muffler on the 59. Headlights on the fenders on 69 versus headlights on the radiator sides on the 59. The PTO has a long clutch lever and is "live" on the 68 and a small shift lever and not-live on the 59.

I'm pretty sure all D12 steering boxes were the same,I have several D10 tractors for parts but not sure if the steering arm goes in the same direction as the D12.
