I'm restoring an IB and painting it industrial yellow. The manifold is rusty, what color should I paint it with high temp paint and what prep is necessary for manifold? Is there a high temp primer? Thanks

When I bought a new manifold I painted it with a high temp paint made for manifolds and with in a few months it was not the same color and within a year or two it was gone. Maybe they doomed to be rust color.

If you want the paint to last more than a year, you need to have the manifold sand blasted. I have used several "special" manifold paints, none lasted much more than 1 year. I now use Rust-Oleum High Heat, made for BBQ grills (has a picture of a grill on the can), it lasts longer than anything I have tried.

Use VHT high temp ceramic paint good for temps up to 2,000 degrees . Clean manifold and coat it according to direction and bake on like they tell you to do and will last longer than the majority of the high heat paints out there. It is used a lot on header on racing engines.
