On my dads D17 series 4 The packing on the fuel shut off is seeping fuel. I tightened the packing nut but did not help. Is there a kit or just but some small packing rope? Any ideas will be a big help. thanks

Never heard of a kit for them but there is a o-ring sort of thing in them that you should be a able to get from a Agco dealer or buy a whole new sediment bowl assembly

If it has a nut you can snug up on the stem, it most likely had a packing in there. Yes you can buy new packing, but you would have to find somebody that has the size you need or buy a whole roll of it. Most guys don't mess with fixin them, they just buy a new one.

Check at a hardware store...for something called well packing, IIRC. Comes in various sizes. Also check with a well driller. Sometimes the heavy stuff is sold by the inch!

I have been installing "mine ball valves" from McMaster Carr on all my gas tanks. You can put the stock shutoff/strainer on after if you want but the ball valve gives a sure shutoff if there is a problem like you are having down the line. And turning a valve handle 1/4 turn is a lot nicer than screwing the stock shutoff in about 8 turns. I keep on hand a 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8" npt male/female so I have one when I want it, and replace those used when I order from MMC the next time.

I should have added these mini ball valves only cost about 5-6 $, plus shipping, but not much for shipping if you are ordering something else too.

I have used white sewing thread, wrapped around the shaft, and then snugged the nut up on it, to tighten up my Allis B fuel shutoff, on my sediment bulb unit.
