CA-front crankshaft seal

Hey fellas, I have been chasing oil leaks down on a ca that I am planning on painting this spring and the front crank seal behind the crankshaft pulley has a consistent drip. The question I have is, does the front axle assembly need to be pulled on this to get the crank pulley off?? My manuals don't have anything about removal but it looks to me like that's the case. I have replaced crank pulley seals before on my wd45's but not the CA. The cast steering sector don't appear to have the clearance needed to remove the crank pulley so I can replace the seal. Any help from you guys that have done this procedure before would be great. Thanks so much, Sincerely, Hoss

I don't know for sure, but it would probably be a lot easier to deal with the seal with the front end off anyway.

This unit must be a pedestil type front end, if it looks to be in the way? My CA is wide frontend, and only the radiator needs removed, it looks like, but haven't had to try the job'

Guys, Sorry forgot to mention that it is a widefront, but don't think that makes a whole lot of difference cause where the clearance issue is is right directly in front of the crank pulley and they are the same(widefront an narrow front in that area)but I have the radiator off at the moment but ran outa time tonight to go any farther, but it sure don't look as though there is room to pull that crankpulley off the end of crankshaft without hitting the casting of the front end. On the ca it sits down lower into a sorta half circle of the front casting and thought if someone had already been down that road of replacing front crankseal then it would save me tryin to pull the dang thing if there aint room. However if it will fit off the end then would save a guy the trouble of removing draglink from the steering linkage an all the hassle associated with pullin that front end off. Thanks again for any help, Hoss

Wide front or narrow it all has to removed back to the front of the engine.
You might end up removing the timing cover as well. It can be done without removing the cover but can test your skills. The pulley breaks easy with a three jaw puller by itself.

Wide front picture.
