Power Crater head

Just wondering, what is the difference between the WC, WD head and the tall WD45 head? Is the combustion chamber in the head on the tall head?

All three heads are flat. The only chamber is the spark plug pocket. The tall head (late WD and all WD-45's) have the spark plug closer to the center of the bore and have more coolant capacity. When used with a Power-Crater dished piston, the air/fuel charge is squeezed towards the center where the spark plug is located.

Doc,

While we are speaking of spark plugs, I notice that the later D-17s use a 3/4" reach plug rather than the 7/16" reach plug.
That must mean the head is different to accept the longer reach plug. Do you know if, as it would seem, the long reach plug places the end of the plug even closer to the center of the bore or is the extra length of the threads on the outer portion of the hole?
My parts manual does not list two part numbers for the head but that is not unusual as A-C sometimes furnishes the latest version of a part if it fits the earlier application as well.
Just curious.

The end result is the spark plug tip winding up in the same exact location. The thicker deck of the head resists cracking much better than the older thin heads. Later D-17 head replaces all previous tall heads thru the Parts system.
