Allis Chalmers rated drawbar HP of the WD45 at 38.53 HP and Nebraska drawbar tests ranged from 29.49 HP to 38.53 HP. Allis Chalmers only Rated the WD 45 as a 39 HP tractor at the end of production.

IF you have actually really Operated a good, Healthy WD-45, I think you will feel like that is a gross under-rating...

We pulled 4x14" Semi-mounted with both of our WD-45's and never needed to use 1st gear and that was even through Black and Yellow Wax soils..

They will just SNORT, raised the front end and stand FIRE out the stack and keep on pulling...

The really amazing thing was that Dad with the WD-45 and 4-bottom could plow right through a wet spot that would give me all types of
Trouble getting through, with the JD "B" and 2x14"..!

Ron..

I can tell you that many older farmers with AC WD tractors would shake their heads and wonder out loud just "How that has so much more than their WD..!!

I was there....

Ron.

I have used several WD45's and around here never saw one pulling 4X14". All you would see around here is 2X16's or 3X116" and the 3X16's would make a WD45 snort. We live on hilly ground with clay streaks through it. I have a WD45 that I finished restoring this summer in memory of my dad -FIL- family members and friends that worked at the Allis Chalmers LaPorte Works Plant LaPorte, Indiana. I have taken it to two shows and 1 pull so far. At the pull I pulled it in a 0-10,000lb. stock percentage pull class and took first place pulling against Oliver super88,MM U , IH M & super M , and JD G & 70 D. Tractor only weighed in at 4,200lbs.and didn't run out of power. Over the winter I have made some brackets to mover weight around on it.

When I was a kid a neighbor had a WD45. In 12' Cane silage with a single row cutter it would glow Red all the way to the tip of the muffler. A real strong tractor.

Our Allis dealer said the WD45 was a 45 horse power tractor, didn't say fly wheel, pelt pulley, or drawbar, just 45 horse power. I was in 4-H back in the day and our club went to a "Field action day" out side of Mendon Mo. Part of the action was plowing by a WD45 with a semi-mounted 4x14, a Super MTA with a 4x14 , and a 70 JD with a 4x14 trailer plow. I remember that my Dad thought it was so funny that the Farmall and John Deere guys complained that the Allis kicked their butts because of that cheater hitch. Pretty sure all 45 horses were there.
