wd 45 shifter loose

I have a wd 45 diesel and the shifting lever seems reel floppy. what is the common thing that wears out. is it the lever itself or what the lever goes into?

Everything from the shift lever through the shift cover wears, and that equals slop, hanging in two gears and such.

I bought a quite nice original WD45 a few years back. Except the shifter was a mess. The forks were OK. I was able to fix it with a new shift lever and over size pins. With a new shift lever, I could have bushed the housing, and used regular pins. But it was easier to grind the square part of the over size pins down, and drill out the housing.
