my i400 shift lever will not go into reverse. it stops at neutral like its hitting a wall.the manual i have does not help at all.does anyone have any suggestions on what it might be

If it has a "shuttle" shift lever (F-N-R) there is no reverse in the transmission, it's blocked.

i cant find a manual that will help me find the problem and fix it.do you know wht i should do?

Is it your forward reverse lever that won't go into reverse? Or is it the main transmission shifter you are referring to? If it's the latter Dr. Allis has the answer above. How long have you owned and operated this machine?

it is the forward-reverse lever. i have only had it a month and it was woring and the leve just refused to move to reverse one day

I'd be removing that silver thing underneath your shifter lever that sticks out about 4 inches. Someone has clearly messed with it by the welding done to it. It should not stick out there that far. It is the detent spring and ball on the inside for the shifter. Don't know what you're going to find when you remove it.

i talked to the previous owner and he said he made it stick out like that because he put in a longer, stronger spring due to the
older shorter one allowed the tractor to pop out of reverse. so he modified it.It was working fine, but im guessing if there is
supposed to be a ball at the end of the spring and shaft, it fell out, or someone else suggested the turnkey fell out. Does the
tractor have to be split to fix either of these problems? and if so, where does someone get a manual on splitting a tractor?

So with the spring and shaft removed, will it now shift into reverse ?????????? You have found the problem. Modifying that detent mechanism was a Band-Aid on something that is an internal problem. Yes, you have to split the tractor to work on it, and maybe even split it twice. I have never worked on one.

actually, no it did not go into reverse when i removed the spring and shaft . is there a manual to help you split a tractor?
