I would appreciate any info on this machine. It has a 149 gas engine with a updraft zenith carb. It has a bucket on the front, but no backhoe attachment. This machine has a homemade counter weight on the back of it that was on it when I got it at least 10 years back. This allows the machine to lift more than I could ever attach to it. Mechanically this machine is strong. Maybe new brakes shoes,a rust free fuel tank and a tune up, but starts up and runs faithfully. However it is a very ugly beast. No fenders a huge counter weight, rusted bucket and just a eye sore in general. With all this I was wondering should I give the old girl a makeover. What is she worth fixed up and is the cosmetic parts available? I don't need her for work any more but would like to fix her up build a trailer for her and take the kids for a ride every once in awhile. Also I need to make a new bucket for her where can I find the exact specs for the original bucket. I can built, but I am unsure if the bucket is original. Thanks for any advice at all or any comments. I am very new to this restoration thing, but I have mechanical and welding background so I am sure I can duplicate it if I could get the info on it. Also what color is it suppose to be it has been repainted Cat yellow. Thanks again

Probably one of the Allis Chalmers yellows listed. Probably won't matter too much since it is not going to be a show and parade tractor.
Paint

Thanks for info. The d10/12 series III? Does that mean the fenders, side panels, etc.. from the d10/12 are the same as the I-400? As for the paint I would like to have it somewhat the same color as original. I mean there is alot of shades of yellow and those numbers don't tell you the differences, years or even the shades. I don't even know what shade it is suppose to be in the first place. Right now it is a "cat" yellow is that close to the original color? Again thanks for the info btw The tractor was made in 1967. Thanks again

The I-400 had three transmission options. Standard 1-4, R, Hi-Low Range 1-8, R,R, and the Reverser 1-4 Foward, 1-4 Reverse. If your I-400 has the Hi-Low Range it a little more sought after and if has a PTO. The Reverser was a poor design and very weak. Show me a I-400 that has the reverser option and I will show you a tractor that jumps out of gear or will start to jump out of gear.. You can also use a D-15 Series II fender for a D10 Series III or D12 Series III. The difference between D15 Series II fender and the D-10 Series III, D-12 Series III fender is a small cut was made to the lower back part of the fender for the top link bar that runs across. The cut to the should be 4 inches by 3 inches. I believe.. I have three I-400's and I'am in the process of coverting one from the reverser to the HI/Low Range in one them which has the loader and backhoe. They are great little tractor.
