CA hydraulic lift

I poster this on unofficial Allis board and thought someone on here could help.I posted a week or so on the CA I got for my son; The lift went up and won't come down. I put it in the shop this AM and disconected the Line feeding the cylinders. The lift drifted down so I reconnected the hose and started it up. No matter what position the lift lever was in the lift woulod drift up. It would stay down as long as it was held down but if you let it go it would start to drift up. I say drift up because it didn'tcome up as fast as if the lift lever was in the raise position. Also if you let it drift up it wouldn't go back down even with weight on it. I know that it is an internal problem so I took the pump off and started disassembling it' I have an IT manuel but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as instructions go. I found nothing wrong with the pump pistons or ping plugs as the IT manuel calls themsprings and nothing with the speed control . I haven't took the unloader out and checked it yet, I'll do that tommorow.
My question is is there something I'm missing or could the unloader cause the problems I'm experiencing?

not the linkage or anything slipping, I'm confident it is an internal problem, just not sure what

My 55 CA acted very much as you described when I first got her home about six years ago, now remember the CA has the "traction booster" on her, seems to me I remember having to loosen a bolt and adjust the linkage to correct this problem. Been a long time ago but what ever I did worked, still working good today! Good idea to check the simple things first before ya start throwing money at it. Good Luck.
Bruce.

If it has not been used in a long time then the internal valving could be sticky resulting in a constant flow.
Otherwise there is some adjustment to the unit on the outside, I would have to look at my manual. Its not something I use often to remember

nat, when you first described the issue, i thought traction booster adjustment, but did and do know squat about the CA. But now that I hear it has a traction booster, that is what my 15 was doing and it was traction booster adjustment.

I don't have the book for yours but when I got the book out on mine i found it way out of adjustment.

Just to help clear the linkage issue, I had the tractor for a couple years before I gave it to my son. I put a 3PH on it, home fabbed.and used it a good bit. The 3ph doesn't connect to the traction booster so no linkage to adjust or get misadjusted. It has worked fine for years but he hasn't used it in a month or so and when he went to use it the lift wouldn't raise. I figured it was low on fluid expecially since it was parked on a slant. I put fluid in it and the lift came up but wouldn't go down. Fast foward to today, I took pump off and took it apart. pretty good bit of gunk in it. I cleaned it out thinking maybe something blocking an orifice or something. I put it back together and added fluid and started it up. I had the pto engaged and lift lever in down position and the lift arms raised all the way up. From what I can see on the AC service manuel that G Stuart Overdon was nice enough to send me that it must be in the 'hold valve". I took it back off and will take it back apart tommorow and really check the hold valve.

KISS formula- why take the pump off first? Start with controls, valves, etc. It is lifting...via the pump. Pump does not control drop.

If you are using the CA hydraulic system to lift the 3 point is IS most certainly connected to the traction boost system. The linkage that controls the TB valve goes down to the snap Couple or pin hitch. The linkage connects to a control valve that raises the cylinders when activated. If things get stuck in the linkage OR in the valve itself, the cylinder CAN have pressure to it anytime the pump is running and NOT release.

let me clarify. When I got the tractor there was a heavy angle iron frame bolted to the final drives across the back of the tractor, and that is what the 3ph is made on, not hooked to the snap couple bell and the linkage from the spring isn't hooked to anything plus the fact that it worked for several years this way is why I said the linkage had nothing to do with it. After taking the hold valve apart I found the plunger pin stuck and slightly bent causing the ball to stay somewhat off the seat thereby letting the lift rise. I found that a fairly local tractor company is an ACCO dealer aqnd they ordered the parts for me this morning. Who would have thought such a minor part would still be available for a 60 year old tractor especially since it is only$1.52
Thanks for the help
