PTO is run with a hyd clutch. When dad's got the oil hot on a PTO pump it would fall out of gear. Had to wire the lever to keep the pump going.

The PTO lever is held forward into engagement by stand-by hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic system. Generally, when there is a problem with it falling out of engagement, the stand-by hydraulic pressure is too low, and needs to be shimmed up to 350 to 600 psi maximum at the main hydraulic pumps low pressure compensator. The engineering theory behind this design was, if the engine was stalled or shut off with the PTO in gear, when the engine was re-started, the PTO had already safely shut off on its own. While the engineers heart was in the right place, it could occasionally cause issues like this. When the 8000 series was released, they put a safety start switch on the PTO valve, so if left in gear, you couldn't re-start the engine. So, I'd say you need to connect a 3,000 psi gauge to the "tee" on the side of the PTO valve and verify hydraulic system pressures......350 to 600 psi doing nothing and 2500 psi when you pull back on a remote lever while not connected to a hydraulic cylinder.
