Corn Picker

My neighbor has a corn picker sitting at the end of his field for sale, it has been there now going on 6 months i drive by it everyday, I would like to know what is it worth and what to look for.

From what I seen from the fence is that it is a one row and it has rubber wheels with spoked rims. I did see the AC on the sheet metal.

Thanks!

Kirb, if you do not have very much experience with pull type corn pickers, most are 50+ years old, they can be a real headache like an old hay baler. Most were left in the fence row because they quit working properly or were not worth dragging back to the house.

if it were me and I was looking for a pull type corn picker and I planned to use it, I would look for a New Idea brand corn picker. Like all old machines you will need parts, so most farmers had a spare picker setting in the woods lot for parts.

New Holland was a major baler brand, New Idea was a major pull type corn picker brand, back in the day.

I did see an AC picker, but it had solid wheels, the picker with spoke wheels is a Case, I have an old john deere picker and it has spoke wheels.
spoke wheels may just mean its an older machine as my old john deere in a 1948 model and worn out.

Just a word to the wise, as least look at a New Idea brand picker if you are going to use it. If you are going to paint it up and show it behind you AC tractor then buy the old AC picker.
Just my two cents!

I know the implement was shedded 90% of its life, it looks very nice from the fence.

I am told it is in working order, and it looks more like the first picture you have than the second.

I am going to look at it tomorrow morning with the owner.

I am a Minneapolis Moline collector and MM corn pickers or any type of equipment around my world is like hens teeth to find.

The major ag dealers when I was growing up was either that SOB (Some Other Brand) or AC and AC was the top dog in the neighborhood.

I will try to post pictures tomorrow

I went and looked at it this morning, I have known the owner for many years, I went to high school with his kids,

The picker is a Case corn picker and it does work but needs some parts as being 50 years old several things are worn out.

Lots of nails and baling wire holding many of the chains and shafts together.

The redeeming factor was the tires were relatively new, which I could have used on my plow

I did not think the tires and the Picker were worth $2500 his asking price, he claims one went on craigs list for more than that.

It will look good where it sits.

Thank you all for the help.
