D-17 Repo Exhaust Manifold

The manifold I put on there several years ago is OK but the lack of threads for a pipe for the muffler is a pain in th a$$. It came with a pipe that sits in the outlet and clamps on with the muffler.
Has anyone tried to thread the outlet with a pipe tap and install a length of pipe to slip the muffler over?

They do make a manifold with threads in it and it is a replacement for all D17s + WD and WD45. The one you have fits early D17 and stock WD and WD45.

You cab thread it. Ive done several. You have to use some prudence and a light touch. I believe it takes a 2 1/4 pipe tap but not sure.

Thanks for the reply. The manifold is still in good shape so I won't have to buy another one. I will take it off and try to thread it.

Never seen a 2 1/4 pipe tap in all my years as a fitter. Dads d-17 we just brazed it in with two torch's and some good brass rod.

You may have a tap that size, if so disregard,

I saw a few large taps on e bay in the 35-45 dollar area,

However I did not see a 2 1/4"

Sure want to blow that manifold out good no metal chips left in there to fall down in to the engine

I have the pipe that slips in the manifold and the muffler goes over. I can match that to what ever size pipe will work and then tap it to that size. That's the plan for now I hope!

If it was me I would do one of two things. One do as said above braze it in or two find a piece of stainless steel pipe and have someone that knows what he is doing and weld it in with stainless steel.
