I have oil leakage at pto control shaft on left side, oil leakage at both ends{right and left} of power director control shaft, rear pto shaft. I&T manual covers some direction but am wondering if there are any other small details that I need to know. I have never split one of these before and may be that I am to old to learn. I just dont want to get in over my head.

All help appreciated

Thanks

This is from memory, so maybe you'll get another reply with corrections.

The power director control shaft has to be removed before splitting the tractor. So, obviously, the O-rings on it can be replaced without a split. On the contrary, you would have to be quite a magician to do the same with the pto control. I don't know if it's humanly possible to remove and replace that without a split. The pto seal is easily replaced with removing the three capscrews and retainer.

I have a manual for my D-14, and it also covers the D-17. I think the series 4 has independent PTO, so you may have to pull the PTO shaft.
I also learned the hard way on my D-14, that you need to take out the power director dipstick. I took a lot of cussing and a bent dipstick to figure that out..
If I can remember, I'll look at it tonight

When removeing the rear pto seal retainer does the shaft-brg. come out at the same time?

Sorry, I can't remember. I just did the one on my D15 in the last few years, and I still can't remember! I'm going to say just the retainer came off.
