Reinstalling WD head

two questions:

1) should the head bolts be re-torqued with the engine warm or cold?
2) should flat or bellville washers be used on the the head bolts?

tks ............ RP

Yes re-torque it after you have warmed it up. Me I re-torque it with the engine still warm as in give it say 30 minutes to cool some then re-torque the head bolts.
As for washers if it did not have any when you took it apart then do not use any if it had them use them

Thanks Old. Only reason I asked about washers is one of the 1/2" dia head bolts has a washer on it. Don't know which hole it was in. The others do not. I'll follow your suggestions. .......... RP

Figured out the "washer thingie" ... the one head bolt with the washer goes to hold the muffler bracket in place ............. duh !! (don't know why I did not think of that .... It's good when we can laugh at ourselves. I cleaned out all bolt holes with taps, all went back with "fingers only" down to where the bolt is flush with the head.

Going to "run it in tomorrow (weather permitting), re-torque head bolts, and put the ol' girl to work ......... RP

Set tappets at .015" COLD both intake and exhaust. Best results on re-torque head bolts is after running for an hr or two and then re-torque the next morning when stone cold. You do whatever you want.
