C oil pressure

Recently bought a C allis that had been sitting for a couple years. When I first started it, it had no oil pressure. I took the line off by the filter & pumped in some oil which primed the pump. Had good pressure after that. Son was using it & it lost pressure while running. Oil level is full on the dipstick. Any ideas? I plan on dropping the pan & check the pick-up tube.

Make sure the oil filter is full of cotton, not paper. Also, make sure the metal tube is still in the filter base.

Those tractor are a very low pressure oil system and if it has th wrong gauge on it. it will not read well. Also they use oil filter back pressure to make the pressure so you have to have the correct oil filter that is good and if it has sat a long time the filter may need to be replaced due to it breaking down

It has the right filter & the stand pipe is in it. We have been using it for a month or so with good pressure after I got the pump primed. I don't understand how it could lose it while running.

Same gauge. It had good pressure after I primed the pump with the filter that was on it. Oil & filter looks like new. Maybe there was an issue that the P O left it sit?

While inspecting the oil pick up system (all parts involved), think of placing a drinking straw in a glass of water then placing a finger over the end and lifting the straw out holding the water in the straw. Any place air can seep in from you finger down will let the water leave the straw the same as lifting your finger. For the oil to drain back into the oil pan (which is what happens that is called loosing its prime)it has to loose the vacuum holding it in the pump. This all has to happen from the (top output port of the pump down) Make sure the pickup pipe has not been replaced with a shorter pipe or that is does or have a crack in it. A place to look for the crack would be down the inside of the pipe where it screws into the block. If the engine was rolled around on the floor without the pan this can happen.

Pull the pan and check the pickup pipe. The person I typed this for found his pickup pipe loose.

That is what I am thinking too. Having a hard time to get the 2 back bolts out of the pan. I will have to wait for my son to get under there to do it. I hope we don't have to split the tractor to get them out?

Naw you don't need to split the tractor. They are a pain to get at but a short open end wrench is what I use to get them loose. As long as you have a snug bolt in the front you should be able to turn them out with your fingers. I get those first on both the B's, C's and CA's.

I had an engine in my W Speed Patrol that had oil pressure when cold but none when warm and ran it that way for a few years and it just kept on running like that. Finally found a replacement engine for it but I still have that old engine. Maybe a new filter and thicker oil may help it maybe not

I just had mine out and was able to use a ratchet type box wrench. I also cut the 1" bolt a tad shorter for those 2 holes as it made them easier to start.
Are you using an Allis gauge or a gauge with #'s on it? The manual states that the most pressure you should get is 15 lbs and then the relief valve opens. It is not unusual to run 5 lbs on these engines. LOL Bob

My son got the pan off & found the trouble. The screen was plugged full of slimy gook so oil couldn't get through it. I will be checking the bearings too while the pan is off. Clean the screen & new oil should do it.
