I talked to an Allis dealer. This man grew up in the family dealer. The ball amd spring system is kinda an aftermarket thing that Allis was toying with calleda Lubra-finer system. They were known to cause problems and starve the engine of oil. He suggested putting the original lubing system back on as came factory. This man is 50 years old and been in the dealership 48 years so he has seen just about everything

The luber-finer was a big, remote mounted auxiliary oil filter. Maybe there are applications where they are a benefit. Not any that I've witnessed on the farm, or over the road.
