I'm restoring a 1954 B that has a locked up engine and have found a 1944 donor tractor with a running engine. Anyone know if the engines are interchangeable?

Many times a locked up engine is not all that hard to free up. Plus if your doing a real restore you will be rebuilding that engine and replacing he sleeves in it and it is wet sleeve engine so easy to pop the sleeves out. To free it up pull the plugs out and fill it with ATF and let ti sit a week or two then try spinning it over using a 12 volt battery with short fast taps on the starter

Not only are they interchangeable but after this many years chances are it has been upgraded to being the same horse power.

it will fit, however if restoring by definition must be original and ALL parts back to original specs.Maybe what you are doing is just a little refurbishing?

Thanks for the replies. Wilson Ind, you are correct. I'm not restoring, just refurbishing. I may rethink the engine swap though, even if they are interchangeable. I've tried other lubricants (WD40, PB blaster, etc) to loosen it up, but not ATF. I will give that a try.

ATF + Lacquer Thinner penetrates even better....!!

But remember, ir IS Flammable..!!
