Dr Allis-7010 Update

Thank you for your help on the problems we are fixing on the 7010. A new side shift cable on the range selector made a huge difference, we are still going to replace the other cable since we have it apart and already bought the cable. We cleaned the spool in the hydaulic control valve for the PTO and changed the hydraulic filter, the PTO operates better now. I think I am still going to reinforce the bracket metioned as it flexes quite a bit! The last problem we are looking at is the tractor doesn't like to go and stay in first gear. I lube all the linkages and all the other gears fall in nicely except for first. You can get it to go in but it will fall out easily. I disconnected the linkage and tried to shift it manually but it didn't want to go easily and I couldn't get a lot of leverage. It does feel like something may be hitting the floor when trying to shift. Any ideas what to look for?
Thanks,
John

I'm assuming this is the Power-Director "twist shift" transmission??? I've never had any issues with 1st gear, so I assume it is linkage related. The shifting linkage has to be adjusted so neutral is located in the center of the slot. I think second gear and reverse gears are the ones that require a fuller/deeper stroke of the lever. First gear should not be an issue if second and reverse can be fully engaged and detented into gear.
