WD45 hand clutch

Tractor still moves quite well when clutch is disengaged, releases somewhat when hot, how far should I back off on the shims??

Kind of a difficult question to answer, without actually driving the tractor. "Creeping" (to a degree) is a very normal part of those oil bathed clutches. WD-45's with 3-plate clutches are worse than a WD with the 2-plate clutch. Only way to know for sure is to remove the cover under the battery box and count them. If you think you are going to absolutely eliminate creeping all together, you're probably wasting your time. Removing shims??... well, you're risking having it slip under a hard load by doing that, unless someone has pulled waaaay too many shims in the past. Draining the 80/90 weight oil out of the trans and PTO and hand clutch compartments and refilling with modern day Hy-Tran or Hy-Gard oil would be a step forward. Takes 4 1/2 gallons total at three drain plugs and two fill points.

I had considered draining and refilling everything. It doesn't creep, it moves it will pull up hill until warmed up, then it will creep. I'm going the easy way and try a lighter oil. TY

Mine would creep when cold. Changed the fluid to universal hy/trans oil and now it'll stay put cold. I can even shift it with the hand clutch when warm now. There is a spec for the clutch plate gap, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

shim it so you have a reasonable pull on the lever. If it is too light the clutch will slip, if it is to hard it will be hard to pull engaged and will be hard on the linkage. The clutch drags because of thick oil between the plates. Use the engine clutch to put it into gear, problem will be less with warm oil, or thinner oil.
