WD45 spin out wheels

I bought my first Allis Chalmers a WD45 several months ago. Took it to pull and heard a noise in one rear wheel and realized that one of the four bolts was not in locked position. I have sprayed it with penetrating oil and can't get it to move. Is there any thing I am not doing right or is there something special that I need to do?

Drive a chisel between the rim and lock to lift the rim away from the eccentric. Use your biggest ratchet or breaker bar on it. If that doesn't work--Heat!! Take the lock assembly off the disk by removing the two bolts from the disk. Drive it out with a hammer. Throw the whole thing in a camp fire for several hours getting it red hot. Let it cool then use a good impact on it with a 3/4 socket, working it back and forth. Put penetrating oil in the process. It will come loose.

Al, A wood fire is a great idea. I used a rosebud on all mine. That gets pricey real quick.

Albert thanks for the ideas. I used a chisel and had to get a 3/4" socket for my 3/4" drive set and put a 6 foot bar on it and got it to turn. Thanks again.

I have a WD tractor that was ballasted with calcium chloride in the tires( keeps it from freezing). It leaked for 30 years and corroded the spin out wheels to oblivion. I had a terrible time getting them apart. I cut the rails out of them and welded them onto a new 12x28" blank rims. I mounted a new set of Firestone 14.9-28s Traction Field and Road and put them on my WD45 diesel. It pulls and looks awesome.

I have 14.9-28s 151 Field and road with no fluid on my WD45. I pulled it in a tractor pull last weekend and didn't do to bad for being the first time to pull it. Took first place on 0-10,000 lb. percentage pull weighing only 4,480 lbs.. This was my first time pulling an Allis I usually pull an IH 450 weighing 8,000 lbs.. I have to do a little more playing around with the weight placement to get the Chalmers pull better in light the classes.

Turning the Top one is always easier than the rest..

Remember, you MUST use the "Stops" on both sides or the Rail on each wheel..!!

Keep them OILED and they won't give ya any trouble..

Once in a while you may hear a noise from one of the clamps if it slips a little..usually will happen not long after moving the wheels in or out..that is why there are "Stops" on the one rail...!!
