Allis B magneto question



I acquired an Allis B this week, my first Allis. I've wanted one for years and finally bit the bullet as I was needing a smaller tractor and I just dont care for the offset Farmalls that I've owned. It seems to be a decent little B but, I realized after I got it home that it doesnt have a cut off switch. The mag appears to have a hole in the case for a terminal but its missing. I have never had a mag apart completely so I dont know how difficult it would be to replace the terminal. Looking for someone with some experience to shed some light on replacing the terminal. Thanks in advance guys.
 
I could be done without a lot of stress. Just a small bolt insulated from the case with a wire running to the points on the inside. Then a metal ground tab devise to short it out on the outside. A wire could be run from there to a switch to ground it out.
 
Taking a mag apart is not too difficult but it must be properly timed when it is put
back together. The 2 screws on the front hold on the distributor cap. The next 4
screws hold on the mag cap. You may have to remove the rotor,it just pulls off, to
remove the mag cap. There era 2 screws on the top of the mag that lock in the coil.
loosen them and remove the coil.you will need to run a wire from the screw below the
points, where the condenser connects, to a screw that goes thru the case. It looks
like there is a hole there now. This screw MUST be insulated. There is usually a 1
1/2" long brass tab attached to the outside of this screw. This is used to short out
the mag. When reassembling the mag the only critical part is the alignment of the
gears on the mag and in the cap. If marked use "C" position. Next you must time the
mag to the engine
I just realized that I'm writing a book. Hopefully OLD will chime in and send you a
copy of his mag book with instructions on how to do all of this.

You should be able to find a nylon shoulder type insulating bushing and washer at Radio Shack, or any electronic shop. Usually use a 6-32 screw and nut in the bushing as Dick L says. Mark the mag case flange to the housing on the block to maintain timing when you reassemble. Be careful not to rotate the mag while it's off and should go right back in time. The hole in the case looks a bit far forward to go into the points compartment so you may have to figure out how to get a wire to the points.
 
Before you remove the magneto. Remove the small distributor cap. Note where the rotor is pointing. When you put the magneto back
on the rotor needs to be pointing in the same position as before.

You will have to remove the distributor cap and the coil. The screw is a 6-32 X 3/4 You will also need two nuts and washers. You
will have to make a wire. The wire goes from the screw to the screw on the points. On all the type J's I've had a part. The wire
runs along the back of the coil and around the right side of the coil and then down to the points.


I use nylon washers for the insulators. You will need an insulator inside the hole as well. I use rubber fuel line for a 2 cycle
engines.

Unless you need originality, simply run the end of a length of 14GA stranded wire into the mag through the existing hole, and connect it to the screw where the points, coil, and condenser connect, and connect the external end to your "kill switch".

Seal the wire into the pass-through hole with a dab of silicone sealant.

but, I need to get a kill switch on it
before my boys use it.
 
I assume the previous owner removed the screw? If that
screw is still inside the magneto and get caught on the
magnet. It will spell death for the magneto.
