Traction Booster line is loose

I just bought an Allis D-17. It runs well, and I just fixed the wiring for the lights. While working on the wires, I noticed that there's a thin line that does to the gauge which says "Traction Booster" on it. Although I vaugely understand the purpose of the traction booster, I have no idea how it works or even what lever to use to enable or disable it.

So, I'm asking how to use it, location of the lever, and how it works. I found there is a small metal block near the dashboard and under the battery. From that "box" there's that thin line, which goes to the gauge. Well, that line is loose from the gauge. I tightened the nut on the rear of the gauge, but the line pulls right out. I removed that nut, and it appears that it should have a compression ring (brass bead) in there, and apparently it's gone. (But that's just a guess). What is the proper method to attach that line to the gauge? THe gauge is pretty rusted, so I dont know if it works, but is leaving that line loose, a place to leak oil or something? (I did not notice any leaking oils though).

Either way, I'd like to connect that line to the gauge correctly. whether the gauge works or not. What is the proper way? And if anyone could explain the way to use and test that Traction Booster, and how to enable/disable it. I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Does anyone know any place to download a user manual for this D17? Like a .PDF file. This is my first Allis, so some of the features are puzzling, such as this Traction Booster. Thanks

It sounds like you are missing the ferrule. Most likely you don't have enough line to cut off and put on new ferrule. I would take out line and go to a good auto supply and get a new line with new compression fittings and ferrules.

Jnst buy the operator manual for all ID of controls, fluids, drains, maintenance, etc. Maybe $20?

On my CA that line has a double flare on it. It is a high pressure line and a ferrule my not hold it. Take the nut off and check if the end of the fitting has a recess, compression ferrule, or is half round, flare fitting. You can go th NAPA and get a brake line to replace the entire line. Take the old one with you to be sure to get the correct diameter and length. LOL Bob

The ferrule is definitely missing. Luckily there is enough line left. The local parts dealer had the ferrule, but not the compression nut. I have to wait a week to get that nut, which he ordered. The hole in the nut is severely worn out of round, so it must have been loose for years.

I should mention that I wanted to take the whole line to the dealer, but when I unscrewed the lower end of it, lots of oil started to run out. Since I did not have anything to plug it, I quickly put the line back. But the dealer was able to determine the correct size by looking it up on their computer.
