C wiring help

hello, I am not new to forum, but a newbie to the Allis forum. I am trying to help out my uncle. He has a C. He works it a few times each year and now has some electrical (starting) problems. He would like to convert to 12v negative ground, yet maintain the generator like I have done on a Farmall C.

Does anyone have a diagram for this set up on a Allis "C" ? I cannot imagine it is much different than a Farmall, but wanted to ask the Allis guys.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I converted a 6 volt gen to 12 volts by taking it to a gen/alt/starter shop and he put 12 volt fields in it. This was Ford and I got the 12v fields out of a gen that had a frozen brg. Total cost to swap and test was $17.00 but I found the correct voltage reg. free. A Delco should be easy also.
 
Basically the factory 6 volt setup has no voltage / current regulator. You have a cutout switch on the "A" wire at the generator and a resistor inside the light switch to put in series to ground.......... With the 12 volt system, you get rid of the cutout, and the light switch resistor.. The generator will have two terminals "F" and "A" , these connect to the new 12 VOLT REGULATOR "F" and "G" terminals. There will be a third terminal "B" on the regulator that you run a wire to the battery, normally thru the amp meter.
 
buy a regulator with only 3 terminals, not the "L" and it is slightly simplier

A generator doesn't know how much it is putting out, 6V or 12V doesn't matter. The regulator is what knocks it down to whatever voltage you want.

If it is original there will be some deviation from the picture, the starter switch is mounted on the starter and you push a rod from the seat to start it. I have my main battery cable going to that stud and then use it as a power source for everything else. People add solenoids and use a pushbutton or keyswitch to run the starter but originally they were not like that.
