d14 oil tube missing

I bought a d14 this summer. Did first oil change yesterday and there was no tube for the oil filter as it states there should be in the manual. my question, aside from not filtering the oil, is it ok to run without the tube? I am sure the guy I bought it from was not using one, but want to make sure that in the remote chance I lost it I will not ruin my engine if I start the tractor and move it, etc. I did order a new one but would like to use it this weekend for a bit and not sure part will be in by then. Please weigh in with any knowledge regarding this.

I actually just talked to the guy I bought it from, and he had tractor for 20yrs and says 'What tube?' when I asked him. LOL. Should I take the filter off and pour oil into the cotton before I run it much? I would think that would be better pressure until I get the tube in, or doesn't it really matter either way? I just screwed it on and left it when I saw tube was not there, until i could ask you guys if it was ok to run. Thanks so much for the quick response.

I would put the tube in it -- any salvage yard or someone on here has 1. I don't think it will filter the oil without it. if I am wrong someone please post back so I can learn something too.

If there is no tube in it the filter is basically doing nothing. The tube carries the oil to top of filter and oil comes back down through filter. I would find a new tube or make a new one.

Thanks! I did order a new one, and I am gathering that until that comes in, I can start the engine with no problems besides the filter is ineffective without a tube. Appreciate you guys posting!

Not only will it not filter the oil, but you will have little or NO oil pressure.
Not a good thing. Can't ypu kind a 5" 0r 6" long 1/4" copper tube to put in until
the right one come in?
LOL Bob

I don't the tube would help much. The original tube has a rounded top with a hole in top about half the size of tube.

Thanks again guys. Sounds like it was ran for about 20yrs without a tube, but knowing its missing is bothering me, so I will probably get some 1/4" brake line and fabricate one to use until the actual part comes in.

Being a higher volume oil pump than the B and C of the same style the greater portion of the oil would be pumped into the center of the camshaft. The pressure couldn't be high but must have been enough to keep the bearing from seizing. Kinda risky to lucky to run without the tube. The proper pressure reading on the gage is actually from the resistance of the flow thru the filter fibers and the relief valve in the camshaft front. Shouldn't have been a gage reading without the tube.

What is the proper oil pressure reading? I know when I drove it after I bought it, I felt the gauge was reading low but guy said 'it always has read that pressure' so I didn't worry about it. Now I know why it read that way.... that is very concerning. I am hoping the tube comes in today so I can use the tractor to drag some firewood out tomorrow. I guess if it does not, I will use my trusty pick up. In the case I fabricate a tube, what length should I cut the line off at, how long is the tube? And if I cut a piece of 1/4 brake line and crimp the end half shut, will that work ok as a temp fix? Then you just push the tube into the hole and put filter over top? Thanks again guys for your responses.
