Rear Tires for 1953 WD

Refurbishing my late father"s WD (complete motor overhaul, 12v system, fenders repaired by a local neon sign company, etc) and need to replace the old dry rotted tires.
Checked with the local Co-op and rear replacements are 500$ each installed (will do if no other choice). Would use decent used tires but no luck yet.
Since this tractor will never again work a field, I am looking for advice on tires that would suffice for just light work around arround the farm and a little bush hogging.
Located Southern Middle Tennessee. Tractor SN is 450th from the ending SN.
 
Some center pivot irrigators use 28 inch tires....they are light duty, maybe 4 ply. Check with their suppliers. They are cheaper than R-1 tires.
 
So on those old tires are the tubes showing?? If they are not if it was me I would just leave them on till they did not hold the tubes in any more. My W Speed Patrol has tires on it that I was told 15 plus years ago I needed to replace them but they are still holding the tube in and holding air so why replace them till they have the tube sticking out. I even have a pair of tires to replace the old one but figure why till I have to
 
These tires are at least 40+ years old, badly cracked.
There is a different size on each wheel, once this tractor was retired from the field my dad just used what ever he had on hand.
But, the tubes are not showing and still hold air.
 
So use it with those old tires on it and at eh same time keep you eye out for a pair of matched tires so when the old ones blow or start to loose lots of air then replace them. Might as well get all the life out of the old tires you can before you spend big $$ for new ones
 
American Pacific tires are cheap and won't hold up to work but if you're the type that they will dry rot before you will wear them out they work but if it was me I'm a little more barbaric than old. My 45 pulls a mower all summer probably between 500 and 1000 hours a year. It has had tube sticking out the side walls for three years. People get too worried about tires if they are already ruined. Every revolution I get out of mine is one less my new tires will have to make. The only bad part in my situation is mine are 75% full on fluid. My wheels are so bad I can't pump it out anyway.

The new tires I have in the back of my machine shed for it are ag type tires. Price was right so figure why not
 

If you are going to put tires on your WD, put 14.9x28" tires on it...

13.6x28" are too small for actual real-world "Field-Work"..Yea, I know, it came with 12x28" (now called 13.6x28") BUT, there was a reason the WD-45 came with 13x28" (now called 14.9x28")..they are a more appropriate size for the tractor..

TN keep checking around. I just checked with old supplier, if I was still in the tire business new 8 ply Bkt's would cost around 355.00 each put on the tractor at the shop in central Iowa
 
I have restored some tractors, and been around lots that have been restored. My question is, you have spent countless hours getting it running and fixing up the tin etc, then you want to put some ugly tire on it? This is my opinion, but it sorta ruins the rest of the restoration. What is the actual cost difference between a set of cheap/used tires and a good set? I have been burned several times doing this, and in the end I think it would have been cheaper to install good tires once than have on-going problems with the other option. My friend just finished a resto on a WD, then put Chinese rear tires on it, it makes the tractor look like a Yanmar.
