Allis G Oil level.

Hi,
I have a question I hope someone can answer about my Model G oil level. After I drain the crankcase oil and refill with 3 quarts, the oil level indicated on the dipstick is over filled. The oil pan is clean. The dipstick and markings are the same as 4 others. The oil pan displacement is 3 quarts to just below the lip. The dipstick bushing is the same length as three other tractors. This is driving me nuts. The only way I could get the dipstick to read properly was to machine another dipstick bushing that is 1/2" longer than the one that was on this tractor when I bought it.
Anyone else out there change oil without changing filter and notice the level?
Thanks,
Phil

I don't think that much over full will hurt the G engine a bit. It might bother you, but not the engine.

Thanks for your response, Bob.
According to the manual the capacity with a filter change is 3 1/2 quarts, thus returning the level to the overfill level.

Every operator's manual I've seen says to never overfill the oil level. A lot of dipsticks have "DO NOT OVERFILL" stamped on them. I find it hard to believe Allis/Continental manufactured their equipment with incorrect capacities stated in their respective manuals. I've gotten around the "overfill level" by machining a longer dipstick bushing, but the fact still remains- the dipstick reads "overfill" when the correct oil capacity is added with or without a filter change.
The only thing that makes any sense is that the original oil pan did not have the 30 degree bevel on the rear to accommodate the drawbar. Volumetrically that would make the gauge read correctly.
Still puzzled, but putting up with it,
Phil
