Allis B Rockershaft

I am in the process of rebuilding an engine for a B and seem to have run into a problem. I am under the impression that there were small oil holes in the bottom of the rocker shaft that oiled the rocker arms. I have disassembled 3 and have not found holes in any of them. Wondering how the rockers get oil. 2 of the 3 show excessive wear from lack of lubrication. The other one appears to be a fairly low hour engine. Unless someone has a better idea I am thinking of drilling a small hole at each rocker to provide oil to them. Lee

No little holes in the rocker arm shaft.

How are the rockers suppose to get oil? Don't see why the rocker shaft is pressurized if it is not going to put oil on the interior of the rocker bore. What is even more confusing, the manual states to be sure the oil hole are tuned down on the shaft when installing. Lee

The rocker shaft is not pressurized. It is an over flow system. The hold down bolts do not seal the oil from flowing over the top of the shaft. The working rocker arm sorta pumps the oil up thru the top of the rocker arm. After it is running you can watch the oil run over the rocker arms. It takes a while for the shaft to fill. It needs to be well oiled before starting the engine. One of the reasons I like to prime the oil pump with a hose long enough to run oil over the rocker arms on start up.
