I replaced the pto clutch in 7020 a few months ago. it worked great with no issues. now its been slipping. I tested the clutch pressure and it only has 90 psi. brake oil pressure is 310 psi. where could I be losing the clutch pressure? also how much pressure should the pto clutch have? thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same trouble on a 7000, found the pressure regulator spool was sticking causing low pressure. Got it out and polished the lands, pressure is OK now. Luckily I had not damaged the PTO clutch pack as I caught it early when using the front mounted snowblower last winter. On the 7000 it runs 200-210 PSI. Check the service manual, yours may be similar to the 7000.

A model 7000 has nothing the same as a 7020......If your PTO brake is 310 psi, so should the PTO clutch be 310 psi. Two check plugs on top of the PTO clutch cover....1/8" pipe threads.

that's where I tested both brake pressure and clutch pressue at those 2 little plugs on top of pto housing. does that mean im losing pressure inside the clutch area such as the pto clutch piston ring ?

You've got a leak somewhere in the clutch circuit. It might be the seal ring on the end of the shaft, which is easy to inspect by removing the cover. If that isn't the problem, air check the clutch and I guess you'll find it then. Those PTO clutches are almost indestructible, so I don't know what you'll find. I had one fail 25 years ago and it was due to an internal crack in the cover causing the brake and clutch to have pressures at the same time, which they cannot have. 310 on one and zero on the other.

found the problem. took clutch apart and found the outer pistin ring was pushed out of place. what would cause that to happen? I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
