1959 D17 diesel, New Owner

Just purchased a 1959 AC D17 diesel that has been used for hay work mostly, and fortunately received the good care that operating equipment deserves. Have been using a Ferguson FE-35 for most of the work around the horse farm, but needed a larger platform for our hay fields. I will be diving into all of the postings from this forum as I previously found very valuable info on the Ferguson side, which frequently saved me time and $$. I'm sure questions will arise as I acquaint myself to this "Orange" tractor and its operating requirements.

Any suggestions from the resident members of "check this" or "watch out for", are truly welcomed as an operator of a new to me tractor.

Don"t shut it off hot. Head needs to cool so it doesn"t crack. That"s good advice for any tractor, but especially the D17 and D19.

Use a good diesel grade oil, keep good fuel filters and don't clash the gears if they get damaged it'll start jumping out of gear.Great tractor to pull a square baler.

I just got one too. It is a series III. I always wanted one. The engine rear seal had been leaking and the mice found the hole on the right side of the bell housing. Together they wrecked the clutch. My brother and nephew are working on it. I just got a matching 3-16 plow with gauge wheel and am looking forward to next years Orange Spectacular to try it out.

A few pics now that I have this new one home. Checked all fluids and up to snuff and appear to be clean and hydraulics without water contamination. Awaiting arrival of shop and parts manuals, lucky in the exchange that the original owner/PM booklet was given to me. Serial # D17 25529 D,stamped engine block # 108210, and further forward appears a casting date # upside down of 6 2 59, which if accurate would put this along with serial # at mid year build. The wet area in front of tractor is my overzealous filling of radiator.
