Can the two o-rings #70923574 on power directer clutch shaft #70243520 be replaced W/O splitting tractor? tanks, john

Yes, if you are very CAREFULL. Remove the tin heat shield on the left side of the transmission. Remove the setscrew from the hand clutch lever and work the lever between low and high until you get it to slide off of the shaft. Before you completely remove the hand lever, make sure you are in LOW range. Remove the retaining snap ring from the left side of the shaft. Gently tap the shaft to the left until you just expose the old O-ring. Dig it out and roll on the new one. Oil it. Tap the shaft back to the right and just expose the other O-ring. Remove the old and roll on the new. This is totally an easy job, but do NOT move the shaft sideways any more than absolutely needed or you will lose two half-moon keys inside and have to disassemble much more to make that repair. It is also important to have it in LOW range to perform the repair.

Thank You for reply. Is there a setscrew/lock that holds fork to shaft also, or does fork "float" on shaft?

The internal fork floats and is keyed to the shaft on that age of D-17. Older models have a setscrew on the hand lever and fork.
