Plow Option? Info Needed

Purchased a plow today from a gentleman and it had a wheel attachment on the rear of the plow. I had not heard of this until today. The one in the picture on the plow is kind of a homemade/rigged up unit and the one with the wheel is supposed to be an original. Any info would be helpful.

The gauge wheel was an option on some of the snap coupler plows, I've seen several with that. The one on the plow is definitely a home made deal.

yep just a wheel to help control the depth of the plow. Dad had them on all his snap coupler plows. Before he put new lays on the plow-he would take them to the local blacksmith and have him "put some more suck" into them. With the depth control wheel he would just drop the plow and never have to fiddle with the hydraulic controls on the tractor.

Depth at the rear was controlled by adjusting the "HEEL" at the bottom rear of the rear landslide..should leave a mark on the furrow bottom..

You should never need that gauge wheel on a Mounted AC 3-14" plow..
