185 priming

Afternoon folks got a question . Had to remove fuel filter to repair an oil leak. For some reason she won't prime . Injectors are cracked . Only getting a little weeping in the front three. Plenty of fuel , filled filter . Is there a trick to an allis . Every other machine I've ever primed worked . Thanks

Does the 185 have an electric solenoid shut-off? If so make sure key is in run position. If manual shut-off make sure it is in run position

before I fixed the fuel gauge on the old Oliver I would have to take the line loose at the pump and let it drain till I got a good stream out of the filters.

have you used the hand primer pump. it has a little bail like a sediment bowl. take screw out of filter base I think at top and pump until filter is full. put screw back in and pump until you have considerable ressistance. if it still wont start crack injector lines and pump more. it always works for me.

Allis uses ermeto tapered sleeve fittings at the injectors, sometimes even with the line nut loose line will still be seated tight in the injector inlet. Try tapping the line at each injector with the nut at least one turn loose, you should feel the sleeve let go. Do that on all six and try bleeding again, sounds like air is still trapped somewhere.

Thanks for the input . Seems a lot more stubborn than my Ford's. I should've checked the manual on the hand pump and battery was weak . Got a new one and jiggled all the lines , ran the pump and away she went.

Glad you got it going. Most tractors now use the 60 degree line ends that come loose soon as the line nut is loose, unlike the ermeto line does. Years ago most every diesel had ermeto ends, some even at both ends of the line. Allis 8000 series still used it too. 14MM and 12MM 60 degree ends are more common now, and much more user friendly..
