I have a WC that I put a rebuilt head on the on I took of was a 3 inch head the replacement was a 4 inch , that came off a WD I had that one done at a local shop with all new valves and guides , put it on and it blows out the front water manifold gasket so I removed the thermostate and tried it with the same results , So I guess the head has a crack or some thing else is wrong I thought of having the 3 inch rebuilt using the valves and springs from the 4 inch,.making sure the head is checked this time.If I am right they use the same valves but different rockers ( guess I ll get the 4 checked and see if my thoughts are right on it first). Any help will be apprieciatted. THANKS DON

Maybe those with a better memory, and/or more recent experience will chime in. Until then- as I recall- the short head on our WD used a two legged manifold. It went to both openings in the head. The tall head on the WD45, and later engines, used a single legged thermostat housing which only used the front head hole. The rear head hole was capped off. Seems like that front hole in the taller head was wider? Probably therefore requiring the different housing?

If you took the thermostat out and get the same result, then I agree with Bob and look at it being something other than a cracked head. To rule that out completely do you have bubbles or a geyser with the radiator cap off and the tractor running? I would bet your housing is warped, pitted or not correct for the 4 inch head.

I did use the manifold from the WD the second time, it blows out only at the fron leg of manifold no bubbles just a steady stream even with the radiater cap off so there should not be any presser in cooling system never had problem with old head, real head scratcher I think maybe look through me spare part pile for another manifold?

Bob I think you are right about the two leg , went out and found that I could put a fealer gage in the hole next to the manifold I did find the plate for the back hole but must of gotten rid of the 2 leg manifold so now I m in the market for one to try hope someone has one. thanks for the commet I would not of thought of the difference.
