WC will not start.

Will a WC jump timing? It has a good spark but will not fire even with a shot of starter fluid. All I know about this tractor is that it ran before the seat broke off and the owner hurt his back. It set for some time and then when he tried he could not get it started. I am wondering if the cam and or the mag might be out of time.
Thanks
Frank

Not likely on jumping time. Sounds more like air obstruction. Is it mag or dist? If mag it has to have a good blue spark, wont run with yellow/orange spark. Did you spray ether in air cleaner or right into carb?

You say you have a good spark but is it Blue/white in color and will it jump a 1/4 inch gap or more??? If it not all of that then you have a spark problem. If you have that if you pull the air cleaner tube off and hold your hand over the intake of the carb and spin it over does it suck pretty good and get gas on your hand?? Only way it would jump timing is if one of the timing gears broke or stripped.

It set inside about 18 moths. It does have enough compression to blow out the spark plug hols. I put a little ATF in the cylinders and the next day I tried to turn it with the starter. It turned easy and shot atf all over the shop. I have not tryed to see if the spark would jump 1/4" but it does have a nice blue spark across the plug gap.It does have suction at the carb. I did not spay starter fluid directly into the carb but in the area of carb input.

It has a hole in the clutch housing at the back of the engine and I find a mark on the flywheel. I put a timing light on the plug wire nerest the front of the tractor and it did not flash the mark.

Thank all you for your help and when i get back to it I will go over all the suggestions and see if I find something.

thanks again
Frank

Do a compression test!!! IF its a mag is the impulse working? If not it will fire but not start at low speed cranking.

I will do a compression test but you may have the problem in the impulse. I have no experience with these AC tractors but I did notice right away that I did not hear the mag click like the little JD I have. Should I hear that on this mag. I also noticed that the screws on the cap of the mag looked like they may have been removed and replaced lately.
Thanks
Frank
