Engine in D19

I just purchased and got running a D19 tractor. Originally was a diesel but has been re-engined to gas. Like I said, quick tune up and got her running but exhaust manifold leaking. Want to R&R the exhaust manifold gasket but not sure what engine this is. Combine engine? Power unit? Hoping someone here might know what it is. Also, I have looked for the serial number on this tractor and only found AM 4975-4 in the under seat area. Do I actually need to remove seat to see serial number on the D19?

Looks to me like a G-230 engine which is pretty much the same as the G-262 that it should be, but will be less HP. It is from an "A" or "A-2" combine. Manifold gaskets are the same for either engine. Machine the manifold flat before reassembling and tighten manifold bolts every day you use it when COLD until they quit tightening up. Thanks to the Feds the gaskets don't have asbestos in them and are poorer quality than they were 30 yrs ago.

Number you found is a casting number. Serial numbers are stamped. Look on the left front of the torque tube....where it is bolted to the engine.

When the 230 and 262 were used in the combines, wasnt the identification numbers, riveted on the block , opposite the spark plug side of the engine? It was about 4x4 inch plate.

By 1961 for sure, they were the same wet-sleeve design block and cylinder head, water pump, etc. The difference was bore and stroke and carburetor size. The G-230 was never used in an A-C farm tractor, only the model "A" and "A-2" combines. The metal tag was about a 3 x 2 inch and riveted to the left rear corner? of the block. It will say either G-230 or G-262.

Well I paid $1,000 for her so I think I got a good deal. The power steering and hydraulics are not working but show signs of heavy leaks. The rearend dipstick shows over filled and a creamy brown color. I am guessing there is a lot of water in there. Does it use standard gear oil?

From the looks of the valve cover oil fill, I'd say you either have a combine or a stationary power unit engine. When I overhauled my D17D, I had to get a different block. The block I got came from a combine and has a tag attached to it that would be right under your #1 spark plug.
Your tractor serial number isn't on the flat pad to the right of your oil filter in the top pic? I'm not certain that's where it should be on a D19, but that's where it is on all of the smaller D series.

On the D19 the S/N is stamped behind the seat on the right side, may be covered up with hydraulic lines....
