Allis Chalmers 190

I bought a 190 at an auction last weekend for $700.
A little bit about the tractor. It has 1 new rear tire
and 1 new 3 rib, new tire chains, and a nice straight
westendorf quick tach loader on it. It has been
sitting about 5 years. It fires on starting fluid, it is a
gas and the tank was empty. Carb is full of rust and
rust in the line. A couple questions. Does anyone
have a good idea how to get the tank clean? Also
there are 2 lines and sediment bowls at the tank,
they must t together under the cab somewhere?
What is the purpose of this? Thanks in advance.
Mike

The fuel tank is 48 gallons capacity. In order to be able to fully empty the tank when leaning to the right or left, there has to be two outlets. They are tied together underneath the platform running from the left sediment bowl to the right sediment bowl on a diesel model....don't know about a gasser. I've had limited success power washing out fuel tanks with hot soapy pressurized water and rinsed in chassis. I've also used a small sand blaster and then power washed out and rinsed out the sand. That big tank has baffles dividing the left and right sides, so I don't know how you'll ever know if it's really clean or not. I'd also remove both sediment bowl assemblies and install a standpipe 1 inch tall on each one to avoid sucking up everything in the tank after cleaning it out as best you can. You may need a diesel style fuel filter and base to keep the remaining junk out of your freshly rebuilt carburetor. Maybe want to consider a different tank ???

Thank you for your help. I was considering a
different tank also. I didn't realize there were baffles
in the tank. Just got the tank off tonight. Thinking
that might be the way to go.

If you have the tank already off, you might consider cutting a big hole in each end and sand blasting the interior of the tank and welding the ends back shut. I'm not that talented, but there are some sheetmetal people who are.
