Amish duals

I work for the secondary road department in my county and a part of it has a large Amish community. I spent the day in Amish country watching a tag team of farmers work a field. We talked to one of them and he said they took a crop of hay off the field last week, spread manure on it and worked it in today.

One guy had what appeared to be a Deutz tractor with a 4 bottom rollover plow and the next guy came behind him with a AC 200 and harrowgator. The 200 had a sweet set of steel duals on it that I'd never seen before. They said they were hoping to have it planted by tonight, but never said with what. Here are some pics I took from my truck as I ate lunch.

I hit submit before my photos loaded.

From my understanding, old order Amish use horses, steel wheels, etc. New order Amish use tractors and other equipment with steel wheels and Mennonite use rubber tires.

Mennonite there's different versions of them there's one that keeps a buggy and horses to go to church on Sunday the rest of the week a car is fine along as its black. I have seen steel wheeled bobcats now that's a rough ride if you look at the tires they have large heavy springs in them .

It varies greatly from region to region. All depends on the local Ordnung. In Pennsylvania, there are Old Order Mennonites who are horse and buggy and horses in the field, like the Old Order Amish. There are Mennonites who use steel wheeled tractors but don't drive cars. Then there are the 'black bumper' Mennonites who use rubber-tired tractors and drive cars and trucks that have all the chrome flat-blacked out. Then there are Mennonites who drive tractors and cars just like anybody else. Amish in Pennsylvania tend to stick with horses in the field but some Ordnungs allow 'modern' stuff like towed diesel power units with PTO and hydraulics to operate modern machinery behind the horses, and others only allow less technologically advanced machinery to be used. Some Amish have moved to other areas so that they can have less restrictive Ordnungs, so I would imagine you could find some using tractors, and some Amish have moved to other areas so that they can revert to a more 19th century technological level.

Nice setup.

Could very well be Amish. I've got Amish and Mennonites by me, and Amish can and do use such IF the elders allow it. Got an Amish fella by me that uses a Oliver Cletrac and one that uses a Rumley Oil Pull M regularly. I was looking to pickup a L Oil Pull at an auction a year or two ago and he came along to help me start it because again, he has and uses an M regularly and knows the Oil Pulls very well. Heck, there's an Amish fella over by my brother that has a 4 cylinder Detroit diesel for field irrigation.
