cylinder liner

I have an IB that I am redoing the engine. Some cylinder liners projedt above the head by a couple of thou which is good. A couple do not, can you buy spacers to bring them up?

If it is only a couple of thousands and the others are not below the block deck you will not have a problem. The head gasket will seal fine. My pulling C had the sleeves cemented in place and decked the block and sleeves flush.

On the ones that are above the deck, make sure there's no burr on them, or in the seating area holding them up.

Ted, did you split yours and are tearing down that way? Or are you doing it together on wheels? The reason that I'm asking is that my B went down last weekend and I know or suspect that I've been having troubles with the o-rings, so I bought a gasket set with the intent of tearing into it next fall or winter. Well, it broke last weekend, and I'm not home this weekend. Next weekend I'm going to pull the head, and figure to pull the rods and pistons, sleeves. I haven't decided yet whether or not to pull the crank and go for the main bearing while I'm down there, but that will depend on what kind of movement I get while I'm in there. May need to get the mains too, and may only need to do the rods. I don't know. Point being, I intend to pull the head and oil pan and go that way without splitting it and tearing it all down. If I have to split it, may as well send the block out to have it hot tanked too. I'm trying to anticipate a "field" overhaul, or the whole thing.

Did you take yours all apart? Doing it together on wheels?

Thanks

Mark

I have done them both ways. Big thing is the crank and how good or bad it looks. Did my first B back when I was 18 or so years old and home on leave from the Navy

Liner shims are available for about everything. If you get a hold of a place like federal mogul or area diesel they should be able to find somthing with a comperable bore that would work. As was said before though as long as they are at least flush with the deck you should be fine.
