My dad got his dads WD that he bought new in 1949 this week. I went and got it and the steering wobbles bad. I have read the archived posts here about it. Started tearing it down today. The bearing in the pedestal is going to have to be replaced. I took the spindle off, took the set screw out of the top gear. I am thinking the shaft is going to have to come out. I tried driving the shaft off the top gear, no go. Am I going to have to take the rod (tube) out for the hand crank? I am thinking I need to so I can drive the shaft out. Am I thinking right? Any advice on this project would be appreciated.

I have a parts WD out back if you find you need some parts. No engine but the front end is there and the transmission and a few other parts and pieces

I do also have most of a WD45 engine but I pulled it out of my W speed patrol due to low oil pressure
