Replace ring gear on Allis WD

I am considering having someone replace the ring gear as it is getting noisy when I start my WD. Any idea on how many hours they figure for a mechanic to r&r the ring gear? It is easiest to take the engine out to get to it, or split it and slide the back half away?

Pull the engine....no supports needed. Remove radiator first.

have you had starter drive checked. that might solve problem. also if you can get to the ring with a small file you may be able to clean up teeth. worth a try.

a good mechanic-- couple of hours If you can remove the hood before you take it to him-will save a little time
