Just installed new rings, checked valves and runs very good except the governer oscilates when running. Any good ideas??

Check all the linkage for it being free and the adjustment of the cross over arm. Surge spring hooked at correct place.

Surge spring missing??? Common problem if missing or not hooked up as it should be

All items checked, spring is good, all is free, still does that?? Will stop if I rev it up sometimes but will come back?? Mistery

Everything is not as before if it needed rings and a valve job. A rebuild when needed will change the air flow thru the engine which changes the fuel air mixture. Check the cross over arm adjustment first. Unhook the linkage at the cross over arm. With the hand throttle pushed all the way forward and the link from the carburetor pulled all the way forward the linkage should look like this.

If it does not you will need to bend the crossover so it does.

If it is in adjustment and still surges you may need to remove the power jet in the carburetor and open it up with the next wire drill size. It can be opened up slightly by working a torch cleaning wire in and out that is the same size as the existing jet opening.

.
Thnks for your reply, the rod and cross rod are on the money. I do hear the pulsating in the carb . Will try and run a cleaner thru it.

Ok,did all that and still surges?? Is there another spring that connects to the carb maybe that I dont have? I see a small hole in the rod next to where the arm hooks onto the carb and I did temp a small spring from the rod to a place on the engine and it did stop the surging?? Not sure that is a pancea but works for now?? Anymore suggestions would be much appreciated? Thnks
